Two Long Days

Hello all so wanted to update you on the Laundry Room Makeover. And before I start wanted to just say I don't care if the trend is to have wallpaper or boarder and even if it lasts for twenty years I will NEVER DO IT AGAIN....This is what I have done so far... You might say...I don't see anything different. But I have been working on this sense I last posted... The washer and dryer are out in the living room, took all the trim out , going to rip out the flooring tomorrow in between clients... Did I mention how much I appreciate them? Thank God they don't care what I look like in the process of doing their nails...

Does anyone have any hints on making this border come off any easier???? Please let me know. Your help is appreciated..Everyone have a better day than what I'm having(I'm still having fun with is project)...

Hugs
~~Pattie~~

Just think of how beautiful things will be once it all comes down!
Kim, recently posted about a product she used to remove her wallpaper border. http://savvysouthernstyle.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-design-trend.html

Hope the process moves smoother for you!

I just bought WP Chomp which is what Kim of Savvy Southern Style just wrote about recently. Hoping it works!

Yes... liquid fabric softner.....

Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the wall. I tried several products and none of them worked like liquid fabric softner! Make sure you "score" the paper with a razor blade!

I see you are living in a big mess, too. I used WP Chomp wallpaper stripper that you spray on. You may need to use what is called a tiger to put little perforations in the border and then spray it and let it sit a few minutes. Then I took a wet rag and soaked it too and then it just scraped off. If you use the tiger do it lightly so you only put holes in the border and don't damage the sheetrock. Good luck.

Good luck to you with that tedious project. I don't envy you. I'm glad that my sister was able to give you some good advice though. I know she just mentioned (on her blog) about doing the same thing in her half bath. I once had borders in my kitchen, but ended up just painting over them. ha! I read that if you use primer and good paint and the border is very secure on the wall, it was safe to paint over it. I think my sister did it too in her kitchen. I detest stripping wallpaper and I share your sentiment. I will never use it again!

Oh wow, you've made a lot of progress with the border! I've never had to take one down my in-laws just bought a house that was covered in them...almost every room had borders! Luckily for them it came off really easily so my FIL was able to do them all in one day.

Good luck!!!!

I have taken off lots of wallpaper (even though I do not have a blog) and I first advise buying a scorer. It is a small, plastic, hand-held apparatus with "teeth" on one side. It "scores" or puts tiny holes in the paper. I bought mine at Home Depot or Lowes a long time ago. I always score first. Then, I get a spray bottle and fill it with very hot water and I spray it over the scored wallpaper. Next, and this is the trick, wait about 10 minutes until it is all soaked in and it should scrape off easily. I usually use a wet sponge as I am going along and continue to add water if it is extra tricky. Good Luck!

Good luck with this stripping! It just takes time and patience. Remove whatever will scrape off or peel off freely, then score it, and spray it with hot water in a spray bottle, or big pump sprayer if it's a large area. You can add vinegar or anything else you want to try, but it's really the hot water that does it. And don't be afraid to really soak it and wait, spraying ahead to get that next section to start softening, then scrape gently and rub with a cloth or scrubbing-sponge, and scrape some more. Then wash the wall to remove residue with vinegar solution or TSP before painting. Use old towels on the floor because it's really messy, and just be patient and do small sections at a time. Looks like you've made good progress already! You'll have a pretty new laundry room in no time!

Patti, do you have a scorer? I highly recommend it if you don't. It's a round thing that makes little cuts to the paper. It's pretty cheap.

I tried using fabric softener when I had to remove the rooster border from my kitchen, but I found that the stuff you buy from the store REALLY does work alot better. Other than that, the only thing I can tell you is...don't leave it sit for too long when you take it off or it will reseal itself to your floor!! And then you have to remove it again to lay floor over your current floor! Lesson learned the hard way. :(

It really is just a huge pain in the rear. Good luck!

Looks like your having a "great" time! ;D

Our whole house was practically wallpaper when we bought it. I used one of those scorer things & then just some water in a spray bottle. I sprayed it really well, let it sit for a few minutes then scraped it off with a scraper. I don't know if this will help, but it's worth a try.

I have used liquid fabric softner in the past. I used a Paper Tiger to score the border/wallpaper with first. I also took it a step further and heated the fabric softner in the microwave so it was hot before I screwed the top onto the spray bottle. It worked like a charm. Of course, if the border was put up without sizing it is gonna be really hard to get off. UGH-xo Diana

I always use fabric softener--that and a bottle of wine. The bottle of wine is for me not the walls. Good luck!

Hello Pattie, unfortunately what google has translated from your page does not make much sense, I think I understand that you must remove the wallpaper from the wall. right? So you just have to thoroughly wet the paper with a sponge (not flood the room)and after a few hours remove with a spatula. :) good luck for the work

Pattie, I see where Sandy said use fabric softner. I have heard of that too. Those wall paper borders do not come off as easily as we think they should. Thank goodness it's not all papered. You are a really good decorater, so it will be wonderful when you are finished.Smiles, Susie(She Junks)
